About this place
The smoky aroma of skewered meats rendering over glowing charcoal offers an enticing welcome after a day at work. Located on the 2th floor of the Suzuya Building in Otsuka, Enya is an easygoing izakaya serving a broad lineup of charcoal-grilled skewers alongside dependable drinks and tavern fare, ranging from familiar standards to meticulously prepped specialty cuts.
One item that immediately draws attention on the menu is the celebrated kiwami liver. Appreciated for its delicate grilling and moist, tender bite, it is often among the first orders placed. The kitchen also turns out soft-boiled quail eggs with luscious molten centers, as well as meat-wrapped skewers that balance crisp texture and savory juices, including pork wrapped around enoki mushrooms or cherry tomatoes.
Diners fond of skewered poultry will also appreciate the presence of limited-quantity cuts, such as handmade chicken meatballs (tsukune), hatsumoto (aortic arch), saezuri (windpipe), and segimo (kidney). When choosing among the options proves difficult, ordering the chef's choice platter of 5 or 8 skewers is a dependable way to sample freshly grilled pieces straight from the fire.
Between skewers, lightly pickled celery or smoky iburigakko daikon pickles provide a crisp, refreshing interlude. They pair effortlessly with a cold draft beer, Hoppy served with a choice of white or black mixers, or a zesty gari pickled-ginger chuhai. For a comforting conclusion to the meal, warm chicken zosui rice porridge and stall-style sauce yakisoba round out the table.
Open for dinner service from 17:00 to 23:00, the izakaya also takes table reservations. With its energetic room and wide skewer selection, it is a relaxed address to keep in mind for an unhurried evening in Otsuka.
